YOUR FOUR-YEAR ART JOURNEY

Year 1 — Building Strong Foundations

Students begin with gouache while developing essential drawing and painting skills. They learn about line, shape, proportion, composition and colour through subjects including still life, landscapes, portraits and decorative objects.

Year 2 — Discovering Watercolour

Watercolour is introduced alongside continued drawing practice. Students explore washes, colour mixing, texture and light. From Year 2, they also begin plein-air sessions, learning to observe and paint outdoors.

Year 3 — Expanding into Oil Painting

Students continue developing their watercolour skills while being introduced to oil painting. They learn how to work with canvas, brushes, palettes and painting mediums while building confidence with more advanced techniques.

Year 4 — Developing an Individual Style

Oil painting becomes the main focus, with particular attention given to still life, observation, composition, colour and personal expression. Students work towards more independent and accomplished pieces while continuing to use gouache and watercolour when appropriate.
